CELL COMPARISON

280Ah vs 314Ah LiFePO4 Cells for Energy Storage

The higher-capacity cell can reduce cell count for the same energy target, but it does not automatically fit an existing module or process. Compare at pack level.

280Ah cell: 3.2V and 896Wh nominal energy

02

314Ah cell: 3.2V and 1,004.8Wh nominal energy

Final choice depends on module, busbar, cooling and validation constraints

Start with pack energy

Translate the target pack voltage and energy into series and parallel architecture before comparing unit price.

  • Use 896Wh and 1,004.8Wh as nominal per-cell reference values.
  • Allow for the system design margin rather than treating nominal energy as guaranteed usable energy.

Check the mechanical envelope

Cell dimensions, terminal position and compression design can determine whether a change is feasible.

  • Compare module footprint, height, busbar layout and service clearances.
  • Do not assume a 314Ah cell is a drop-in replacement for an existing 280Ah module.

Define validation evidence

The enquiry should identify the evidence needed for the actual pack and market.

  • Request the current datasheet, test data, terminal details and packaging information.
  • State the pack architecture, annual quantity estimate and sample validation plan.

BUYER QUESTIONS

Buyer questions

Is 314Ah always better than 280Ah?

No. It offers more nominal energy per cell, but the better choice is the one that fits the module, thermal design, electrical limits and validation plan.

Can I compare cells only by Ah?

No. Include voltage, nominal energy, dimensions, terminals, operating limits, test evidence and pack-level integration.
